Researching the Mechanisms for Implementing the Competency- Based Approach in Algerian Schools: Reality and Prospects Algerian Schools
Main Article Content
Abstract
Since independence, Algerian schools have adopted three educational approaches. The
first was the content-based approach, followed by the objectives-based approach. Since 2003,
the competency-based approach has been implemented. This approach, which is still in effect
in Algerian schools, is based on Jean Piaget's constructivist theory and prioritizes learning over
teaching. However, educational outcomes have remained somewhat distant from the stated
objectives and expected competencies. This prompted me to research the mechanisms for
implementing the competency-based approach in Algerian schools, examining its realities and
prospects. My aim is to contribute to the Algerian school system, transforming it into a
workshop of production and innovation, and to clarify the implementation of the competency-
based approach for all stakeholders in the school system, particularly those working within the
education sector.
